Patient's stories
Evelyne Rousseau
Breast cancer patient
My name is Evelyne. I was treated at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR). This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I'd like to share my story with you...
December 2020. I am then an active businesswoman, I exercise every day and my projects are flying. But this momentum stops abruptly when I notice a lump on my right breast. We all know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, but we never imagine that we could be the one that draws the wrong number…
Fortunately, I am well surrounded. My husband always talks about the better days ahead. He says that the pandemic is the best moment to have a cancer: when life starts again, it will be my turn to start living again.
I have always had a fond connection with the HMR. It’s my childhood hospital. It has always taken care of my little brother, parents, niece and nephew.
When the diagnosis of breast cancer is made, there is no doubt that I want to be treated at the HMR. And I was right! Their professionals are true allies in my fight. Everywhere I pass, they welcome me with kindness and empathy. I will always remember a nurse crying with me during my first chemotherapy session… She reassured me by saying she was marching at my side.
Today all this history is behind, and my LIFE is in front of me! I got through it because of the whole support system around me and the exceptional care offered at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont.
During the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you too can make a lasting impact in researching and improving patient care at the HMR. I am a living proof that donations make a difference. Please, be generous with the HMR Foundation.
