The Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) Foundation wholeheartedly thanks all Virtual Scotiabank Charity Challenge participants and donors. You have raised an outstanding $ 16,603 for our patients!

It is always very satisfying and a great source of pride to see the population of east Montreal mobilize for the well-being of the patients of their hospital, Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont.Julie Desharnais, Executive Director of the HMR Foundation

A smart pedal exerciser for bedridden patients

The amount raised, supplemented by the Together for the HMR Fund, will enable the hospital’s physiotherapy department to acquire a smart pedal exerciser.

This specialized equipment helps patients fight the muscle loss experienced during long stays in bed. Indeed, such forced immobilization is often the cause of muscle atrophy.

Thanks to this new equipment, patients, like François Quenot, will be able to more easily regain their full physical shape after a very long stay in hospital.

In 2020, I spent long weeks in intensive care at the HMR, because of COVID-19. During my hospitalization, I lost a lot of weight and muscle mass because we did not have the necessary equipment.François Quenot, HMR patient

A successful virtual race!

From April 23 to June 14, 2021, close to fifty participants took up a twofold challenge:

  1. Run or walk the chosen distance.
  2. Invite their families, but also their friends and colleagues to encourage them by making a donation.

In total, more than 1,300 kilometres were travelled for the cause.

As a respiratory therapist, I see many patients chasing their breath and it was to give them a break that I ran! Being immobilized for a long time can have several harmful effects on the body. It’s great that the Challenge makes it possible to buy equipment to keep them in shape!Stéphanie Goupil, respiratory therapist at the HMR and captain of the Inhalothérapeutes HMR team at the Scotiabank Charity Challenge
