Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank: $600,000 to fight pediatric leukemia
7 October 2020
The Cole Foundation and the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation will donate $600,000 over three years to the Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank (QLCB) in support of research on pediatric and young adult acute leukemia.
The Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank: Unique in Canada
Created in 2001, the Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank (QLCB) is a provincial project funded by the Cancer Research Network of the Fonds de Recherche en Santé du Québec (FRQS) and other partners, including Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) and the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer.
Investing in the medicine of the future
This major financial commitment underscores, encourages and supports the exceptional work of researchers and physicians striving to better understand the mechanisms involved in hematological cancers with the aim of providing tools and expertise to support Quebec researchers in developing new therapies against these cancers.
The $600,000 over three years offered by the Cole Foundation and the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation will be used, among other things, to:
- Advance the development of precision medicine, optimizing treatment for patients suffering from the various subtypes of childhood and young adult leukemia.
- Participate in the development of new drugs to better target leukemia in children and young adults.
- Improve the genetic characterization and clinical annotations of the specimens in BCLQ collection
- Promote research programs to study families with leukemia predisposition syndrome, which are emerging and newly recognized entities.
Dr. Josée Hébert, Director of the Quebec Leukemia Cell Bank at the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Centre, is delighted with this donation.

About the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation
Created in 2012, the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation is a private foundation whose primary mission is to provide financial support to organizations working in the arts and culture sector, as well as to organizations that assist people living with an intellectual disability in order to enable them to reach their full potential.
Thanks to its two projects, the Foundation allows the former to sublimate their art for the benefit of all and the latter to better integrate into society through a unique contribution.
